I have yet to meet a person who is truly monstrous. Psalm 139 speaks of the Creator watching us at the very first steps of life: "You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb" (15). What a comforting thought - the Creator of the Universe being the only one there when we started to become who we are.
I know that there is nothing we could ever do or say to earn God's approval, to earn His grace. That's what makes His grace truly grace. But there's a part of me that believes in the good of mankind. I can't believe that anything the Creator made could truly, in its purest form, be bad. Tainted by sin? Yes, I believe so. In fact, I know so. But I think that's the beauty of God's message, His touch. That when we humble ourselves and come back to Him, He allows that small, pure, and good part to grow, to flourish, to overcome the taint of sin, so that we can truly know life as it should be. I think grace is that door.
