Today was not exactly a fruitful day. And yet, I wouldn't go so far as to say that it didn't produce any fruit at all. Spending most of it travelling from library to library, I had the chance to catch up with a few classmates - bumping into them in the tea room during lunch - and at least I found out that not many books have been written on my Paper I topic. When you turn up with nothing, can you at least assure yourself that now you know as much?
These days God has given me a quietness of heart. My favorite time of the day is waking up to that stream of light pouring in through my attic window. His arms are nice and cozy, warm and safe. There are definitely some safe places in this life.
Tomorrow I will wake up early (hopefully) and trek my way to the dusty stacks in the North Wing of the UL. With only a handful of tenuously-related articles, let's hope I find a starting point, an inspiration piece, for the launch of this paper. Give it wings to fly Lord, I say. Give it wings.
On a somewhat related note, my housemate and neighbor sent the following link to our house this morning. I love it if only for the fact that it captures exactly how lonely and yet fulfilling (read between its lines) grad school can be: http://www.cs.mdx.ac.uk/staffpages/richardb/PhDtalk.html
Last but not least:
Have you never heard or understood? Don't you know that the LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth? He never grows faint or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding. He gives power to those who are tired and worn out; he offers strength to the weak. Even youths will become exhausted, and young men will give up. But those who wait on the LORD will find new strength. They will fly high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:28-31
I love the strength and irrepressibility of this book.
